A family story

Two generations, a single material.

The diamond

In Milan, at the end of the 1950s, Fausto Broggian founded the first family business with his brothers and devoted it to the diamond. It is a trade practised with the naked eye: one reads in a stone its cut, its colour and its clarity, establishes its value, and answers for that judgement before buyers from half of Europe.

The search for gems took him to Burma, Afghanistan and Pakistan. In those years the finest stones were reached in person, in the places where the earth gave them up: whoever wanted them set off to find them. He was among the founders of the Istituto Gemmologico Italiano, to which he delivered the first master stones for diamond certification, and was admitted to the Antwerp Diamond Bourse.

The pearls

In the 1980s the family became the official partner for Italy of the house that was the first in the world to cultivate the pearl. From that relationship grew a bond that endures to this day. The pearl brings with it a different way of thinking about jewellery, and a material that is chosen one gem at a time.

The Compagnia delle Perle

From the 1990s the family created and developed the Compagnia delle Perle, a house of fine pearl jewellery designed and made entirely in Italy. Among its lines is the Milano Collection, which still holds the summit of the catalogue.

MIMÍ

In 2000 MIMÍ was born: extraordinary pearls, bold colour combinations, Milanese design. A feminine, wearable aesthetic, recognisable at a glance. In 2010 the maison celebrated its first ten years with the book 10 Years MIMÍ.

Around the world

Between 2010 and 2018 the maison opened the boutique in Via Gesù in Milan, at Ginza Six in Tokyo, at the Tsum in Moscow and the premises in Saint Petersburg. It brought its creations to Baselworld, to Couture in Las Vegas, to Doha and to Bahrain, and exhibited at the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in 2015 and at the Triennale di Milano in 2016. Since 2018 MIMÍ has been present in more than forty countries.

The maison is led by Marco and Ilaria Broggian, the second generation, each with more than twenty years in the trade. They carry on their father's work on three fronts: knowledge of the pearl, freedom of design, and the patented tension setting, which holds the gem suspended by pressure alone.

Sixty years of passion turned into style: one family, and a single idea of jewellery.

The portrait of the man who began it all can be read in The founder. The savoir-faire, in Our crafts; the symbol that accompanies every jewel, in Ognibene; the way the maison chooses its gems, in The art of the pearl.
